The Best Design Newsletters Worth Subscribing To

Ten newsletters for UI, UX, product and graphic designers, each checked for a recent issue in September 2026.

Design newsletters split into two camps. Some are curated link lists that save you from scrolling design Twitter, like Sidebar and UX Design Weekly. Others are original writing that argues a point, like Jakob Nielsen's essays or the UX Collective's weekly letter. Most designers do well with one of each: a fast skim for what is new, and one slower read that changes how you think about the work.

If you work on digital products, start with UX Collective and Sidebar. If you care about craft and front-end detail, add Smashing. If you lean toward branding, illustration and graphic design, It's Nice That and Creative Boom cover that world better than any UX list. And if you want something calmer that mixes design with culture, Dense Discovery is the one to try.

Questions

Design newsletters: FAQ

What is the best newsletter for UX designers?

For most UX designers, the UX Collective newsletter is the best single pick: it is free, weekly, and pairs an editorial take with curated reading. Add Jakob Nielsen on UX if you work on AI products and want research-minded opinion.

Are there good free design newsletters?

Yes. Every newsletter on this list can be read for free, including Sidebar, UX Collective, Smashing, UX Design Weekly and Dense Discovery. None of them requires a paid plan to get the regular issues.

Which design newsletter is best for graphic designers?

It's Nice That and Creative Boom focus on graphic design, branding, illustration and typography, while most other picks here lean toward UX and product design.

How many design newsletters should I subscribe to?

Two or three is usually enough: one fast daily or weekly link list such as Sidebar, one source of original thinking such as UX Collective, and one outside your specialty for range.
